The Midvaal Local Municipality has officially opened applications for Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) General Worker opportunities for 2026. These opportunities are aimed at unemployed residents within the Midvaal municipal jurisdiction who are looking for work experience, income support, and an opportunity to participate in community service delivery projects.
A total of 30 EPWP General Worker positions are available across the Public Safety and Roads Department as well as the Engineering Services Department. This recruitment forms part of government’s broader effort to reduce unemployment and poverty through labour-intensive public employment programmes.

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for these EPWP opportunities, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 qualification
- Must be bilingual and at least understand English
- Must reside within the jurisdiction of Midvaal Local Municipality
- Must be physically fit and healthy
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Ability to follow instructions
- Must be disciplined and hard-working
- Must have 0–1 year experience in general worker, labourer, or labour-intensive duties
- Must be unemployed

Duties and Responsibilities
The municipality has explained that these roles are labour-intensive and physically demanding.

- Load and off-load materials, tools, and equipment
- Place traffic warning signs near municipal roads
- Clean working areas
- Assist with roads and municipal maintenance
- Operate manual and electrical tools
- Follow instructions from supervisors
- Perform ad hoc duties when required
- Support municipal operations within roads, sewer, water, and purification sections
